This class will be directed toward the fundamentals of video making with smartphones including frame rate, aspect ratio and storage as well as exploring the types of elemental video production, including standard, slow motion, time-lapse, and motion-lapse. The majority of instruction will be directed toward learning the basics of two types of stabilizers, becoming familiar with how they work and developing proficiency for personal use. In a small class setting, you can expect to become skilled in using Gimbal stabilizer techniques and learn to produce exciting and impressive video presentations.

While there are many stabilizers on the market, in this class we will be using both the DJI OSMO Mobile 2 and the Iographer Multi Case for mobile phones (iPhone, Pixel and Samsung) stabilizers, each reasonably priced. If you are a BARN Member, both are also available for checking out for personal use from the Media Arts Studio.

There will also be a limited discussion regarding the use of small shotgun  microphones, and basic lighting applications and fundamental editing and video trimming techniques.

An Open Studio session will be available on Saturday, June 22nd from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, so that students can receive guided help from the instructors with their videos. Students can register here for the Open Studio.

Instructors: Bob Ross and Ken Rothmuller
