Beginners and continuing printmakers in this daytime course of 3 sessions (one per week: no class the week of Nov.21) will learn and practice the basic skills needed for using the press and sharing the studio with other printmakers. You will also learn and practice the techniques used in the intaglio printmaking method of drypoint, which is the etching of marks directly onto a plate without a resist, inking and wiping the plate, and using the press to make multiple prints.

This class is for:

  • Anyone needing a foundational introduction or refresher about the print studio tools, equipment, supplies, and practices
  • Those interested in learning and practicing the drypoint intaglio method of printmaking within the structure of the intro class
  • This class qualifies as a prerequisite for intermediate and advanced classes and workshops offered by the print studio
  • This class alone does not qualify you for working independently in the studio, but this class plus either Introduction to Printmaking: Relief Printing or Introduction to Printmaking: Monotype prepares you to complete the Skills Competency checklist for fob access to print studio

  • No prerequisite needed. This is a introductory level class.
  • A materials fee of $20 will be added to the price of class when you register, which covers a plexiglass plate, ink, and 5 sheets of 12"x18" student grade printing paper.  Additional plexiglass and paper is available for purchase in the print studio.
  • Feel free to bring a meal or snacks. Food is allowed in the common area adjacent to the studio classroom, and there is a kitchen in which to store and reheat.
  • This class will be cancelled If minimum registration has not been reached 5 days prior to the first day of class.
  • NOTE: There is no class on Nov. 21.

This introductory class is taught by a team of experienced BARN studio printmakers.
