    BARN Bazaar Goes Online

Buy direct from the maker at this annual celebration of the creativity that happens at BARN. From jewelry to wood arts, basketry to weaving, you will find an unmatched selection of original hand-crafted items. The Bazaar opens Friday, November 20 at 10:00 AM at Bazaar.BainbridgeBARN.org .

This is the first time that the Bazaar has been held online – usually it is at BARN on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This year you will have until December 15 to make your selections.

Remember that most of these items are one-of-a-kind and will be removed from the site once they have been purchased.

All the items offered at the Bazaar were made by BARN members. Each participating member has their own “store” within the Bazaar site. All proceeds, less taxes and administrative costs, go directly to the artisans.

All purchases will be picked up at BARN via curbside pickup. Pick one of the available times at least 4 days after your transaction, drive in front of the BARN facility, call the number out front and we’ll bring your purchase out to your car.

Ladder stitch is a fast and fun staple of bead weaving that is great for beginners.  In session one, basics of beading ~ setting up a space, tools needed and best practices for beaders ~ will be reviewed. You will learn the pattern of this basic stitch and use two different kinds of beads to create a beautiful beaded ladder that will be the foundation of a bracelet.

Students will reinforce and gain comfort with this pattern by continuing their ladder stitch bracelet to a chosen length during the week before the finishing class. Session two of exploring ladder stitch will begin with sharing personal successes and trials experienced to this point. Beaders will also learn and incorporate valuable embellishment technique to finish their bracelet as well as how to add a simple magnetic clasp.

Kits will include everything to make at least one bracelet. Students will need to supply scissors.

In this two-day class, participants will learn how to measure and mark the hard carving wax used in jewelry making with visible planning lines and precision cuts. We will be practicing 3-dimensional planning and layout techniques for subtractive Wax Carving.

We will begin with the preparation of Carving Wax for ring size and design layout for carving with a classic Dome ring design. Once the practice Wax is completed, participants will be able to apply these new skills to their own designs. The different carving waxes designated by color will be discussed. Green, Blue, and Purple waxes will be available for practice carving. Specialized Wax Tools such as wax saw blades, miter boxes, rotary files, mini lathe, electric wax pens and scrappers will be explained in depth and demonstrated.
